Title tags?
« on: November 28, 2005, 08:49:52 pm »

I have noticed that snews has all title tags the same. Is there any way to make them dinamic? Search engines will destroy me if all titles are same.

Destroy  ;D ;D

Title tags huh? Pretty easy...

Let's grab our article title and chop it up and insert it as keywords in meta tags...

How does that sound?

I'll include that in the upcoming release.

I don't need keywords, but different title tag for every article. Title tag is most important tag for search engines together with h1 tag, so I really need it to be unique for each article. When is next version going to be finished?
P.S. Luka, ja sam iz Srbije pa govorimo istim jezikom, ali posto je forum na engleskom neka tako bude. Ako hoces odgovorim mi na nasem jeziku na private. Hvala.

this request could be related to the idea I had on the IRC channel Luka..where "alias" titles could be used so that if users wanted to create specific titles to be used for SEO, then the choice would be theirs..

what do you think? would this be troublesome to incorporate with your upcoming, and looking good SEF url's? :)

I think that he was reffering to the title of an article, correct me if I'm wrong. The current sNews version takes article's title and sticks it on the top of your browser.

Custom title tags?
It's really a piece of cake, but it requires an extra field to the database, and every time I mess with the database it's hard to make an update to the current system...

yes I see..maybe balkanboy could elaborate on what he wants..as I'm reading it i think you have that covered already?

I was thinking more along the lines of one title being used for the browser via the title tag..

..and the other being an alternative title that could be used for the SEF's..maximum exposure of keywords when also used with descriptive h1 tags, and h2,h3 down to h6 etc.

yes I can see how all these extras would mess with the database, and make the script larger also, you have previously stated that we needn't worry about speed with php and MySql..so what would be your concerns Luka? complexity? :)

Luka I have tried with
Code: [Select]
between my
Code: [Select]
tags but I get some kind of error that says
 Fatal error: Call to undefined function title() in C:apachefriendsxampphtdocstestsnews13index.php on line 15
Maybe I am doing something wrong. However I will definetly wait for new version. I like SEF url's

If you are refering to the title of the individual pages of sNews, I get a different title, with the title of the article added to the title of the page, so that they are not all the same title in the browser.

My RSS reader would not accept the feed as it was. It said there was no title for the feed. The articles have individual titles, but not the feed itself, like MyNews Feed.

Got a title for the feed by adding it to the php code below to the RSS FEED.
I added it just after the opening channel tag. Now my RSS reader accepts the feed and title for the feed.

   $header .= "Moto Music News";

// RSS FEED
function rss() {
   $db = mysql_connect(s('dbhost'),s('dbuname'),s('dbpass'));
   mysql_select_db(s('dbname')) or die(s('dberror'));
   $query = "SELECT * FROM " .s('prefix'). "articles WHERE position = 1 ORDER BY id DESC";
   $result = mysql_query($query);
   $filename = "rss.xml";
   $header = "";
   $header .= "";
   $header .= "";
   // Jova: added title for feed. Nov 26, 2005
   $header .= "Moto Music News";
   $footer = "
";
   $footer .= "
";
   $fh = fopen($filename, "w+");
   fwrite($fh, $header);

thanks

You need to replace the tags with balkanboy..not place it between those tags I believe. :)
