1.7 logout and enable comments bug
« on: November 05, 2008, 01:41:29 pm »

  • Deleting an article, changing it's setting will log me out afterwards.
  • If I write a big article and then try to post it, will be logged out with all my work lost.
  • Enable Comments in Settings is not saved in database and all articles start without this feature on.

I have not been able to replicate any of the reported issues.
Is this a fresh install or an upgrade? If you did upgrade, did you update the database as well?

This is not a 1.7 issue, it's a session timeout issue that's been there in 1.6 too.
I know I banged my head into it too on several occasions. So I no longer write long articles into snews, I write them down in a TXT file and then just copy/paste each paragraph.
I'm sure there's a fix for this somewhere ...

COMMENTS issue 1.6-1.7.sql upgrade. Confirmed.
line missing from upgrade sql
run the following in phpmyadmin or similar on your db
(if using a prefix, put it in. If you want to set enable_comments to YES, you can also do so now, but it NEEDS to be uppercase)
Code: [Select]
INSERT INTO `settings` VALUES ('', 'enable_comments', 'NO');
Also missing from upgrade sql was the following, which you can also run in phpmyadmin or similar.
Code: [Select]
-- SPECIAL KEYS
ALTER TABLE `articles` ADD INDEX ( `show_on_home` );
ALTER TABLE `comments` ADD INDEX ( `articleid` );

Of all the things I have lost, it is my mind that I miss the most.

hello :)
same here, write long, session time out.

solution:
Add this 3 lines after the session_start(); inside snews.php

Code: [Select]
<?php
ini_set
('session.gc_maxlifetime',14400);
ini_set('session.gc_probability',1);
ini_set('session.gc_divisor',1);
?>

in the first line --> 14400 seconds = 4 hours till session timeout :)
can change this to whatever fit the needs.

awesome day
