One possibility... if you have your snews files installed in a sub-folder called site folder in your domain root, then you would need to enable the Rewrite string which looks like this (by default) - #RewriteBase /sNews16 - by removing the #-sign... then replace sNews16 with the name of your folder (site) so it looks like this - RewriteBase /site
... then save the file.

And, in your dbase config settings at the top of the snews.php file, be sure your URL value is correct. It should be:
      $db['website'] = 'http://www.cms-zen.com/site/';

What's the issue with Google blocking a 404 page?

I don't need to know why it is blocked. I am just curious: Why bothering? It is a page not found message. It would bother me when such page is indexed, instead of being blocked.

I did it! Yes I'm the greatest dumb guy on the whole Web!
I had my 404 page indexed and Google said it could not find it since it was leading to the 404. ;D

BTW, hello brother Mo!

@joost thank you,

at google site Diagnostics tab i get this:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Site Diagnostics
View detailed diagnostic information about the pages Google crawls to display relevant ads.

If our crawler finds any issues with your pages, they'll be listed in the table below. We encourage you to resolve these issues in order to allow us to crawl more of your pages and provide relevant ads.

For help resolving issues with any blocked URLs, please visit our Help Center

This crawl report is updated weekly, and we are unable to accommodate requests for more frequent crawling. Please also keep in mind that this report is not exhaustive.
     Blocked URL    Reason Blocked [?]    Last Crawl Attempt
     http:/ / cms-zen. com/ site/ 404/    Not Found    Aug 27, 2008

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

that is why i asked :)

it may not be importent, but it stop google from give Diagnostic.

thank you.

OK... now I see what you're referring to.
I am assuming Google would mark the 404 error as blocked so that it's bot would not go looking for it and/or index it again... since it cannot be found.

If Google bot did find a legitimate page when a 404 error is generated, then it would not do this. Perhaps having an actual customized page display when the server tosses a 404 error would change this situation. I know we've discussed custom error pages somewhere on the Forums but I cannot remember where ATM.

A customized page won't make know difference. Google only cares for html and http, regardless of how it is generated.

Here is the request:

http://www.cms-zen.com/site/404/
GET /site/404/ HTTP/1.1
Host: www.cms-zen.com

Here is the response:

HTTP/1.x 404 Not Found
Date: Tue, 02 Sep 2008 14:04:05 GMT
Server: Apache/2

This is as expected. What else would someone want?

Well, bots are that smart, better said: "straight". So the trick won't work. You'll find out. ;)

Yeah... I believe Joost is correct... the "trick" won't work... because /404/ always remains in the URL no matter what function gets called into action when the server throws the 404 error.  ;)
