Multi subdomain user usage of snews MU
« on: July 29, 2008, 10:06:19 pm »

I think it might be a good idea to consider the following:

having a multi user subdomain blog / cms thingie going on.

so far I have only finished editing the .htaccess file. I added the following after RewriteEngine On and #RewriteBase /sNews16:

Code: [Select]
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^www\.djoey\.net$ [NC]
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://djoey.net/$1 [L,R=301]
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^((www\.)?[^.]+)\.djoey\.net.*$
RewriteRule (.*) http://djoey.net/user/%1 [L]

but before the original rest of the code in the .htaccess

which works well enough if you have a category called user and articles in this category with the users name.

then testuser.djoey.net will redirect to djoey.net/user/testuser

Ofcourse you will to configure your apache to allow all subdomains be handled by the same virtual host. And you need a * cname in the DNS for your domain name.

But what i actually want and will be working on is that every redirected subdomain user has their own page in which they can create new articles and place them in their own categorie's.. I think that will be kind of hard to accomplish though, but hey that is why i'm posting this to the forum to get idea's from the community.
