hosting - sendmail disabled
« on: March 19, 2008, 06:00:27 am »

Hello fellow sNews-ers,

Really appreciate any suggestion on this issue. The only other post I have found suggests there is trouble if sendmail is not enabled.

I have some unused hosting available and recently found sNews which really fits the requirement.

Successfully installed sNewsMU 1.6.3 a few weeks ago after asking webhosting company to remove open_basedir which was causing problem.

Since install the contact form confirms sending of emails but messages are not received because the hosting company has disabled sendmail.

Hosting company just replied after 2 weeks that they will not enable sendmail.

Hosting support suggested modifying the script to use the pear mail module as follows;

require_once "Mail.php";

to the top of snewsMU.php and replace mail() with

$smtp = Mail::factory('smtp',
  array ('host' => $host,
    'auth' => true,
    'username' => $username,
    'password' => $password));

$mail = $smtp->send($to, $header, $body);

Then define the host, username and password somewhere.

Before I spend another day trying to see if the pear module might work would anyone be able to advise me if this might be all possible with sNews or is the only option to move hosting providers?
