Released: iPublish Zine Flexible
« on: February 22, 2008, 12:16:19 am »

Name: iPublish Zine Flexible
Version: 1.01 (UPDATED)
Genre: Newspaper/Magazine/Blog
Special FX: HTML 4.01 Strict doctype
Demo: http://ball-ball.net/demo/iPublish/
Download: http://frdk.com/downloads/

Screenshot:

The zip archive contains everything you need for instant gratification (jeez, starting to sound like P-man ;D), sql file, htaccess files, readme's, the works. Perfunctory liner notes at: http://frdk.com/blog/ipublish-snews/

Fixed-width (for 1024px and wider screens) is in the works.

Oh, forgot one thing: the badge at top left is not included in the package. Nor is the image in the first right column. But everything else is.

Enjoy.

*** UPDATE Patrick's FF problem, some minor stupidities in the IE style sheet, and the redundant badge code in index.php have all been fixed. Version 1.01 uploaded at http://frdk.com/downloads/

Nice Template Fred. Will it work in IE7?
Just wondered... frdk-com really gets discombobulated when viewed in IE7 in a half-screen browser pane on my 20" monitor... the footer section height stays the same and pushes everything else up so it's all over-layered... menus, sidebars, the comment form on top of the template image... etc. A really bad viewing experience for those of us who use IE7. OK in FF of course.  ;D

Damn fine template, Stockholmer... In my FF, though, the rss, ball-ball and login link are in a vertical list, not horizontal which looks quite odd... Either you're working on it again right now, or there is a dilemma... I'm on 2.0.0.12

@Eq: Thanks! I think it's quite nice, though I know there's room for improvement.

@Key: 1) Thanks. 2) Try it? Either the demo or download the theme and run a test with the included files. Just be sure to read the theme-info.txt file before you do... ;) As for frdk.com -- it has nothing to do with this theme. It's full of CSS experiments so I'm not surprised if IE has some problems with it ... but I'm not going to go into that here, because frdk.com doesn't use iPublish ("currently", I might add as an extra caveat because you never know) so it has nothing to do with this release. However, all you need to do if the window is too small to render the page well, is to widen the window. Try it.

@Sasha: Thanks for the thumbs up.

@Patric: Oh, hmm... I've tested in my old Firefox 2 (not sure which dot-version it is) and the newer Firefox 3 beta, and there the submenu works fine. Odd. I'll fix that.

Yes, looking at the template, I think including an extra mod would of highlighted the power of this template.  Also the 'badge', if not included, should of been left out of the template.  <div id="badge"><img src="pix/ipz-flex-badge.png" alt=""></div>.

I think i will be using this template for my own site in the making now.

Rui: Thank you!

Jason: Cool, will look forward to seeing it! ;D
The badge was a silly oversight on my part. I removed it initially, and it crept back in. Version 1.01 does not have the badge in it. There is a hidden ad space though, for those who want that... ;) As for mods, I try to include as few mods as possible simply because you never know how people will use the template. There are a couple of "crucial" modifications included, but that was done for sNews performance reasons.

Thanks for the reports -- it's appreciated. I've uploaded version 1.01, see update in first post.

Oh understood.

Just for fun i modified your template for use with my multiple extra mod
http://www.mediafire.com/?1pbnybzmm3p

Where the index is set up like the below.  Everything is left as the same template, jsut the 'extra's in the template are in an extra function

Yeah. You can put extras in a lot of places. I don't use it myself, to the point where I've more or less forgotten about its existence... But you can put them in the left container and in the first sidebar or in the other sidebar... You could probably even stick an extra in the footer if you feel like it. 8) ;D
I might do something with your modded version for the fixed-width template ..?
