oh I hate pidgin so much.
really I do.
I prefer eBuddy for my IM needs.

pidgin is ugly. I had also had some (rare) problems where links screwed up.

anyway, if I had a choice I would use eBuddy.

or live messenger for msn (yes, i would on this occasion prefer microsoft!).

anyway, know of any other free/open source linux IM programs?

Well, prettiness is not what I look for in IM software! but then again, I do not use IM very often, so I couldn't care less about bells and whistles (aka additional functions or interface customization options). What flavour of linux are you using? on Ubuntu, there are literally tens of IM applications, some for wide use, some only for specific IM networks.
