(SOLVED) Yet another "can't login" thread
« on: September 24, 2007, 09:49:11 pm »

Hi guys/gals,

I've seen this is a recurrent problem. I've read the documentation and similar threads, but the problem persists, so I decided to post my problem here.

When I load the sample index.php and click on the Login link, I get a "Not Found. The requested URL /sNews16/login/ was not found on this server." The link points to http://localhost/sNews16/login/. I guess that the directory login, as well as archive, contact, and so on should be created, but they are never created.

Here's a summary of what I've done:

- I unzipped sNews16.zip in E:\html_public\sNews16\
- I created the tables and checked that they exist: "settings" is the only one containing rows (23).
This is a snip from my snews.php:
Code: [Select]
$db['website'] = 'http://localhost/sNews16/';
$db['dbhost'] = 'localhost'; //MySQL Host
$db['dbname'] = 'snews'; //Database Name
$db['dbuname'] = 'root'; // 'username'; //Database Username
$db['dbpass'] = '1234'; // 'password'; //Database password // Not really my password ;-)
$db['prefix'] = ''; //Database prefix

I'm using Windows XP with SP2. I installed Apache 2.2.6, PHP 5.2.4, MySQL 5.0.45 and phpMyAdmin 2.11.1.

In my http.config, I uncomented the line to enable mod:rewrite:
Code: [Select]
LoadModule rewrite_module modules/mod_rewrite.soand restarted Apache.

I also tried commenting and uncommenting the line
Code: [Select]
#RewriteBase /sNews16in my .htaccess (which I kept in the sNews16 directory).

I always get the same problem: can't login. I don't know what else to try. Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.

Thanks for your reply, but it is uncommented :-[

This is the .htaccess file I'm using (located in E:/public_html/sNews16/ together with snews.php and index.php) for reference:
Code: [Select]
<IfModule mod_php4.c>
    php_value session.use_trans_sid 0
</IfModule>
<IfModule mod_security.c>
SecFilterEngine Off
SecFilterScanPOST Off
</IfModule>
RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /sNews16
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} -f
RewriteRule ^(.*) $1 [L]
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ index.php?category=$1 [L]
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule ^([a-z_]+)/([^/]+) index.php?category=$1&title=$2 [L]
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule ^([a-z_]+)/([^/]+)/([^/]+)/ index.php?category=$1&title=$2&commentspage=$3 [L]
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule ^([a-z0-9_-]+)/([0-9]+)/ index.php?category=$1 articlespage=$2 [L]

Could perhaps the mod_php4.c be causing problems since I'm using PHP5?

At least I'm getting an idea on how these friendly URLs work, which is pretty cool and I always wanted to know ;D

don't know... try commenting it out. (put a # in front of each line)

http://snewscms.com/faq/faq/#htaccess_02

look for Not Found and see if that works.

Thanks again for your help.

I'd tried that before, but in the wrong place... :-\

I'd changed AllowOverride None to AllowOverride All inside the <Directory /> block, and hadn't worked out.
This time I noticed the change in my case should be done in the <Directory "E:/public_html"> block... :-X

Thanks a lot. I logged in and I'm loving it ;D
