The following tags are standard in sNews 1.6:
What is already there, leave. all others should be removed.
After modifying the template: either save it as ansi or utf without bom
<?php session_start(); include ("snews.php"); ?>
<?php title(); ?>
<?php center(); ?>
<?php menu_articles(); ?>
<?php pages(); ?>
<?php categories(); ?>
<?php new_comments(); ?>
<?php search_form(); ?>
<?php breadcrumbs(); ?>
<?php rss_links(); ?>

this
Code: [Select]
<?php
  session_start
();
  include (
"snews.php");
?>
is better like this...
Code: [Select]
<?php session_start();  include ("snews.php"); ?>
Always us <?php   instead of <? to prevent potential errors.

snews 1.6 doesn't have functions call "left()" or "right()", so they will need to be replaced with another, or removed from the code.

The template tags that are in use with snews 1.6 are available at link posted above.

Code: [Select]
<base href="http://joker.oo.lv/blog/" /><title>Joker - Home</title><meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8" /><meta name="description" content="sNews CMS" /><meta name="keywords" content="new, site, snews" />the above is what the function title() puts into index.php.
Code: [Select]
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-2" />
<meta http-equiv="Content-Language" content="Polski" />
<meta name="Author" content="Design4.ltd.pl" />
<meta name="Robots" content="index,follow" />
<meta name="Description" content="sNews | Single file CSS and XHTML valid CMS" />
<meta name="Keywords" content="snews, simple, cms, css, xhtml, valid" />
this is what was in the original design. You have some double ups.

I suggest you move <?php title() ?> above the original lines, and remove the duplicates from the original.

As for page growing/shrinking, that is content related. You can limit the number of articles on display at any one time through the admin -- so you can have just one article present (with a navagation to move to the next.
