need a simple solution

Hello everyone.
I'm hoping someone can help me to get up to speed quickly with snews for a very specific application.  I'm needing a very simple way to keep a list of my upcoming training events on my existing home page.

I need to put a "module" on my homepage that shows a list of upcoming events that I'll be teaching.  The user could then click on the event to go to a page that tells about it and gives them a link to sign up for the class.

I can handle the link-to-payment part.  I'm just not a web guy per-say so I'm hoping for a quick tutorial for putting a single display module into my homepage (probably in a table).

I'm thinking I'd do an SSI of a modified index.php into a table cell with index.php only having the one content module that I need to show.

Any help of guidance on how to make this work would be very appreciated.

Just put the appropriate function in your existing code.
