Upload from files page not working
« on: May 19, 2007, 12:07:00 am »

When I select a directory that has been CHMOD'ed to 777 from the files page to upload a file, I get the following error message:

File could not be copied!

This is version 1.6 downloaded yesterday.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you,
SDKester

Update 1: I have found a javascript error. The onChange event is goto(this.form). That is an undefined function. Although I don't think that is the problem, I only know very little of PHP, I am trying to be helpful to anyone who can assist me.TIA

Update 2: My phpinfo() is located at http://www.skester.biz/resources/info.php

My .htaccess:

    php_value session.use_trans_sid 0

SecFilterEngine Off
SecFilterScanPOST Off

RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} -f
RewriteRule ^(.*) $1 [L]
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ index.php?category=$1 [L]
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule ^([a-z_]+)/([^/]+) index.php?category=$1&title=$2 [L]
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule ^([a-z_]+)/([^/]+)/([^/]+)/ index.php?category=$1&title=$2&commentspage=$3 [L]
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d

I thought I had the same problem but then realised uploads are case senstive ... e.g. upload xxx.JPG wont work, but uploading xxx.jpg will :) just add JPG to your list of allowed files. The javascript error is there, but it's not stopping the uploading.

:D That was it, thanks so much.

Any way to remove the case sensitivity so as not to have to repeat extensions?

best way would be to have extensions in lowercase on your comp...
(that said, for some reason some applications like to make them uppercase by default.)

It should be possible to force the extension to lower case, before the test, and to upload to your server as lowercase.
That way,
a) you don't have to add uppercase variants to the allowed files.
b) linking to item in an article will be easier, as you will know that it will be lowercase (they are different on a *nix server.

Will look at it on weekend, if no-one does so before then.

Thanks philmoz, that is what was so strange. I forced lower case on my system before uploading, still to no effect. It wasn't until I edited the snews.php file to add the uppercase variants that it finally worked.

Have a look at Bram-sam's solution and see if that helps.

I just tried that and removed the uppercase extensions as suggested in the other thread. The 'File could not be copied' error returned immediately.
