So you want to display lets say catalog of your products?

Should the catalog appear in the central column or as a separate page?

When I think of addons, I think that the best way should be to install it through the sNews settings page. sNews automatically looks it there's catalog.php or any existing addon available and includes it. The catalog can appear as a menu item or in the categories. Also, the following functions will be developed like to show what's new in store.

I want everything to show in the middle column. I do not want anything to be "outside" the design/page. So accordning to me, you have just the right thought's ;).

Albert, I don't quite understand...

You mean we'll approve custom addons that people send to the community?

I was reffering to the download manager and the catalog I'm working on...

yep I agree totally Albert..we're in a very sweet position right now within sNews development.

It's small, clean, and compliant, and for some that is all they want..not interested in all the bells and whistles, calenders, shout boxes, how many online, etc etc. I think that's what draws people to this right now, there are plenty of other programs out there that can do so much more.

When I think back to the early days when I was involved with Mambo, everybody said they wanted it to be compliant and SEF, but then the 3rd Party Developers all began coding their plugins and addons, many free, some commercial, and my personal dissatisfaction, as well as that of many others, grew as we believed that focus had been lost.

Even now..there has only recently been a push on the Joomla side to get back to that, after all this time. Thus I wouldn't like to see sNews go down the same line as they did, with all the bickering and arguing that ensued. The beauty is in the simplicity.

If we are going to have plugins and addons developed, then I totally agree that they should pass the Developers test first, then and only then being released for general consumption. It is inevitable that this will not please the "must have it nows" amongst us, but without appearing too harsh, they have plenty of other options!

I don't mean to single any one thought or opinion out with this post, it's just that I have seen this happen to so many promising programs. Keep it simple, offer choice when its appropriate and compliant.

Just my two pennies!  :)

I completly agree with both of you.

However, there are some things that bug me. First, the word sNews is used in a number of webpages and snews.com is already taken. SuperNova Early Warning System = SNEWS, funny isn't it?  ;D So, there are some limitations, and that why I was thinking of changing the name. "Tino" was something I was thinking about, cause I don't want the word news or CMS in it. More like a Mambo or something. sNews stands for Solucija News or Simple News. Also, as I said many times before I see sNews as a designers tool. I want to leave the design and everything to the user who's using it. sNews should be accessible and standards valid as much as it can.

Also, I've found a very good way to install mods. I'm currently working on transfering the settings variables to the database, and I'll all be easy after that. Version 1.2 has 3 files and works pretty fine. V1.3 has only one file and now after we release it as stable it'll remain as is. No additional database tables will be added. That goes for sNews itself, mods are another story  ;D

good idea Luka!

just like plog changed the name to LifeType and revamped the site..nows the time me thinks.

obviously it's your baby, and you have the right to do with it whatever you want, but just for a bit of forum fun, how about we have a competition to "rename" sNews to something catchy with a designer theme?

Tino - is nice, like it! sounds kinda musical though..hint hint!

pristati..tipovi..sigurni..voljan - but I think I like tipovi best..just playing!  ;)

Let us know what you think?

The development of sNews or Tino as it would be re-named sounds hyper.

A question: If the sNews core is ready and bugfixed and even some new features added, could you release it and keep the mods for a later release, when done and tested ? I'm eagarly waiting for it, I need it tons. As a confession, before discovering sNews I sweeped the internet for CMS's and played with all I found, but now... sNews is IT, I don't bother searching for anything else, this is the Supreme CMS for me, if i'm allowed to say so ;D and I mean it.

So, guess I'll have to wait a bit more, uh ?  ;)

I strongly hope you'll say NO, YOU DON'T HAVE TO WAIT ANYMORE

No, you don't have to wait anymore  ;D

sNews will be released on saturday around 6 pm (Central European Time), and the mods will be developed separately.

So, what are you bringing to the party?

Now I can sleep better, that I know the cute lil' sNews is going to be out WhEEEEEEEEEE   :D

As for the party, I bring women (Romanian chicks are renowned for beauty and... other things), wine & my personal handmade 3 point amplifier and sound reproduction sys... when you wanna be sure of something, you gotta do it yoursel, right ?

SoleNews as in "Sole (exceptional, extraordinary, outstanding; unique) News". It's available as a .com.

I totally agree with Bryn, Boyd and Luka. We should keep it as simple as possible and if addons should emerge, then they should be
offered as standalone implements to SoleNews. SoleNews should be kept as it is, more or less. Just small improvments
to the script and it's functionallity, and if one want's heavyduty blingbling things...Go get another CMS.

*sings like crazy*
Yupp, that's the way, ah ha ah ha, I like it, ah ha ah ha. That's the way ah ha ah ha, I like it...
