[Opera]body background broblems
« on: January 09, 2007, 07:18:36 pm »

Noobish question IMHO
ok code is simple:

Code: [Select]
body {
font: 10px tahoma;
background: #6F6F6F url('images/sitebg.jpg') repeat-x ;
}
In IE it looks fine, but in opera background has top marjin... about 20px...

Here is a screen from opera:

Have you tried using a negative margin in your body style to counter-act the effect? It might help, but it might also affect how it looks in FF and IE so you might also have to use hacks to put it back in place. Try adding:
Quote
margin-top: -20px;   /* increase the number if you need it to move up more */
    _margin-top: 20px; /* would move it back down in IE6 only if necessary, remove if not needed *.

And the margin and padding set to 0 as default ? Like this:

* {margin: 0px; padding: 0px;}

I tried your code, and the result i get is: absolute no top-margin!
- with, or without, the * {margin: 0px; padding: 0px;}
-quirks mode / xhtml / html 4.01

...there is no differents...it works well for me in Opera (8.5)

If you got a link, it maybe will help :)

(update: oops!...or did you mean in a snews index? didnt check that..sorry for misunderstanding)
update2: even in snews i've got no problem.

In my Opera 9.0, the margin above the body background appears to be about 30 to 35px in depth.
in IE6... whooooahhh... the alignment sure looks seriously out of whack and parts are missing:
- There is no header image in the left corner,
- you have the header background split into left (center?) and right parts... and the right part is shifted down below the rest of the header background,
- the image LRbg.jpg takes for ever to load and appear on the page, and when it does, it appears out of alignment as well.

Also tried to view it in FireFox just now and noticed you took the page off ???
can't help you anymore.
