multiple unexistent URLs (not fixed since 1.5.31)
« on: May 18, 2007, 02:13:24 am »

If U have for example: category1, category2, category3 etc. & article "blabla" that belongs to category1 (or any other category)... This article is accessible via all possible URLs:

yoursite/category1/blabla
yoursite/category2/blabla
yoursite/category3/blabla

etc.

I have seen this bug on another (powered by sNews) sites too.

Once,I created a new category and submited some articles.Then,I removed it from my site,but google already indexed it.But when I looked my site index in google I saw my exist articles in my category which had been removed.And it started to index my some articles into this removed category.
I think it is so important.

In yours case: simply use robots.txt 2 block indexing.

try this...

in function snews_startup()

add another case item...
Quote
case ((!$categoryID || !is_numeric($categoryID)) && check_category($categorySEF) == false):
case (!empty($articleSEF) && false === strpos($articleSEF,l('paginator'))  && !is_numeric($articleCatID)):

case ( !empty($articleSEF) && $articleCatID!=$categoryID && false === strpos($articleSEF,l('paginator'))):
or alter the second one to this
Quote

Well, Thank you phil for fix.

I dont know it is a bug but there is something like problem above.
For instance , we got a link www.site.com/category/title/
when we add something at the end of taht link www.site.com/category/title/fsdfsdg
it shows it again.
What do we  do to prevent this ?

Thank you again.

3rd part of URL is reserved 4 comments permalink in .htaccess ...
Better not touch this... It's not needed in most cases and 4 SEO too.

Create robots.txt in the root, add 2 lines in it:

User-agent: *
Disallow: /*?*

& be Happy...

@takil84
I see your point... if adding that on, there should probably still be 404 (yes???), if the comment couldn't be found in the expected form.......

But then, it isn't actually missing article/page, but missing something on the page, so a smart redirect to the article would perhaps be the better solution...

Would the this stand up under seo scrutinisation???

phil
I coulnt understand what you mean exactly.

I mean Google index my article, then it comes from a spam site and index the same article again as www.site.com/category/title/?ref=blabla.com
Does Google perceive my site as spam? If no,it does not important.

@takil84
when you view a comment, that last field has should start like /#Comment
It should be possible... actually I know it is possible, to throw a 404 when that is not the case for the comment field, and provide a link in the 404 to the correct page... Then, when googles scans your site, it will find the 404, and I assume will work out that url was wrong, and should be dropped from their db....
