categories disappear when logging out...
« on: November 18, 2006, 10:13:13 PM »

Hi!

I downloaded the RC3 and worked in my design...

As long as i am logged in, everything seems to show as it is supposed to. When i log out, all categories disappear...

Another strange problem I encountered is that I cannot change the Website title (Admin>Settings>Settings>SiteTitle). I enter the name i want for the site, i get the feedback ("Operation completed succesfully!") but the title is not changed...

if you want a look:
http:www.commit-berlin.org/www.a-zone-online.net/

I hope someone could give me a hint... especially on the first problem...

greets...

try publishing an article in one or more categories.

see if that makes a difference...

feature...
If you browse to a site, do you want to see what the author [would like/intends] to fill the site with, or would you rather see what they actually have for you to consume?

I guess, you changed something in snews.php or/and index.php, because  some div's are missing and in de menu there appears a "ul" too much. like this:
Code: [Select]
<ul>
<ul>
<li></li>
<li></li>
</ul>
</ul>
maybe you can try snews again by using the original snews.php and index.php  :/

Strange ... when I see checkbox that says publish this I somehow expect it be published  :P Especially when I'm building site prototype on the fly.

I don't want an empty category. But i believe, having empty categories, will happen to 99% of the users setting up sNews... That's just the way it happens. You create your layout and the categories... and then you enter the content... i understand the developers point, not to show empty categories... i think it's rather a question of documentation or yomunication to the later user/webmaster. Maybe a compromise could be, that an article is automatically created with a category, which is saying something like "no content yet" ....

//edit ... maybe renaming the checkbox from publish to "show" would raise less questions? just a thought...

knowing this issue i just entered an empty article. (SPACE-character as title, empty text-box.) this worked out. But i encountered a strange behaviour, when i tried to delete the article. it said:

Quote
Error

The Title cannot be empty.
Be carefull: Due to the fact that when something goes wrong most posting options are lost, please check them before posting again.
entering some characters (like asdf) in the title field - without saving solved the issue ...

ah, but ralze, you as admin, can log in and see what is present/published (even if empty).

However, a visitor really has no need to know that you have a category that you might use to put some articles in.

when you log out, you become a visitor ;)

Yes ... if only I don't have content added exactly for that 'empty' category page like extra, like filtered list of links, like customized layout on the basis of category. All of a sudden I need dummy article to get all that visible.
My point is plain one - when visible part of UI says that this is gonna be published then it's just example of poor user interface design to have hidden 'intelect' of system to decide that user actually doesn't want to publish it.
