Writing a book...
« on: March 27, 2010, 02:15:11 AM »

Anyone feels like taking a peek? sNews 1.7 in the background (almost vanilla!), HTML5 and a little CSS3 in the foreground so a relatively new browser is probably recommended (tested in Safari 4, Firefox 3.6 and Safari Touch), e.g IE8, Firefox 3.5 and up, Safari 4 and up, Chrome 2, etc. (I haven't done anything special for IE6-7 and won't do that either, sorry.)

Thanks.

Edit. The book is closed, for now. Other things are prioritised atm.

I almost can't read Freddy: the font ("OFLSortsMillGoudyRegular") is crippled on my screen. :o

Thanks Philippe. Where does your screen live - Windows, Linux, Mac? Oh, Seven, right? Is this in many browsers or just one? If you could let me know I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

/* Edit */
Here's what it looks like in Safari 4 and Firefox 3.6 on my old 1440x900 G3 Powerbook with Mac OS X 10.4 (that's old... ;))

Sorry Fred I was a bit in a hurry this morning. I should have given you more infos:

this happens on Seven with IE8, Safari, FF, Opera... (all up to date versions)

(under XP with FF 1.5 the layout is totally screwed. I can't show you a screen capture since the page is totally upside down and the mainbody section is off the wall. But FF 1.5 don't speak HTML5 I guess)

Thanks for the details. I can see the lowercase "e" looks a bit like "c", and the whole thing lacks 'ink' so to speak. Contrast. Not sure if it might have something to do with Seven's type rendering or not. I've changed OFL Sorts Mill Goudy to Georgia for now. Pity, I like Goudy.

Code: [Select]
@font-face {
font-family: "OFLSortsMillGoudyRegular";
src: url("/webfonts/OFL-Sorts-Mill-Goudy/OFLGoudyStM.eot");
src: local("OFL Sorts Mill Goudy"), local("OFLGoudyStM"), url("/webfonts/OFL-Sorts-Mill-Goudy/OFLGoudyStM.woff") format("woff"), url("/webfonts/OFL-Sorts-Mill-Goudy/OFLGoudyStM.ttf") format("truetype"), url("/webfonts/OFL-Sorts-Mill-Goudy/OFLGoudyStM.svg#OFLGoudyStM") format("svg");
}

The svg file makes Goudy look nice even on gen1 iPod Touch so it's a shame it doesn't work fully on Seven.
And, yeah, older browsers will have problems with both the HTML and CSS. FF 1-3, Safari 1-3, Opera older than 10, Chrome 1, etc.

It was a suspense novel, or would've-could've been, but it's on hold for now.
