Figured I'd start a new topic just for sNews14-txtdb.

Post any concerns/bugs here.

Should be finally ready by Sunday evening at the latest, just fixing a few small things and createing a readme file for the installation procedure.

for the curious people out there, here is a link to the test site I have running

removed link - testing period is over

Try posting some articles/comments, adding categories, whatever and post any bugs or complaints here.

cheers

Hi dobey

works fine for me. The only thing I found is that it was runing slow.
Now that may be your server !!

You still have the v1.4 problem if you put this in: /test_category/

Code: [Select]
Php-Txt-Db-Access Error:
Column '' not found

Php-Txt-Db-Access Error:
Query 'SELECT * FROM articles WHERE position = 1 AND published = 1 AND category = ORDER BY date DESC LIMIT 4' failed

Fatal error: Call to a member function on a non-object in /home/dobey/www/test/sNews14-txtdb/snews-txtdb.php on line 696

or remove the / from home

sNews14-txtdb/home/ = ok :)
sNews14-txtdb/home  = no good :(

nice to see you are back, I hope you sort your server problems out.

yeah I  know it is running kinda slow, in the process of upgrading my server to apache2/php5.  Currently running apache1.3/php4.4-hardened_patch which makes it run a tad slow, so rebuilding it from scratch and tweaking now, should be completed by tonight for the server.

As for sNews14 I think I have got all the minor bugs out of it, except for the above.

So do you think I should release it now, by emailing the zip to Luka or what?

Hi Rod

well it's the same as sNews v1.4 and it's RELEASED! :)

there are 2 things that I have done with this.

1/ was to make a 404 error page
2/ was to plug the error with a redirect to my 404 page

Code: [Select]
#ErrorDocument entries for the .htaccess file

ErrorDocument 400 /error/custom_error_page.php?code=400
ErrorDocument 401 /error/custom_error_page.php?code=401
ErrorDocument 403 /error/custom_error_page.php?code=403
ErrorDocument 404 /error/custom_error_page.php?code=404
ErrorDocument 500 /error/custom_error_page.php?code=500

Code: [Select]
<?php

# new by albert 2 mar 2006
$result mysql_query($query) or die( "<META HTTP-EQUIV='refresh' content='1; URL=".$_SERVER['PHP_SELF']."/error/custom_error_page.php?code=404'>"); {
// $result = mysql_query($query);

?>

hope that helps as I will do this with your sNews14-txtdb too as well

jacmgr,

there is 2 fixes for this.

uncomment the mysql module in php.ini - either mysql.dll (windows)  or mysql.so (linux)

or

just comment out line 306 in snews-txtdb.php, since it is not really needed.

Sorry about that didn't catch it, goning to work on a better fix to replace that line with php.

should be ready in about 30 minutes from this post, once I have a coffee and wake up a bit.

k, coffee was stonger than I thought.

If you get the mysql_escape_string error, replace line 306 in snews-txtdb.php with this

Code: [Select]
$query = mysql_real_escape_string(addslashes($query));
with

Code: [Select]
$query = ereg_replace("['"\]","\\0",$query);
sorry about that, missed it when converting.

no, there are no database settings to correct.

Luka is in MySQL mode, hehe.

All you need to change is the site address, username-password, htaccess settings, and you are good to go.  Check the readme-txtdb.txt file, it explains it all there.

Hey dobey!

Thanx for your awesome work! I have some problemos though... My server is running Apache/PHP - Mod rewrite enabled etc, and I have been running SNews v 1.3 and 1.4 mySQL OK and also v1.3 txt-db OK!! Phew...

1) To get past a forbidden access to my sNews14-textdb folder I have to 777 that folder which resides in my www root.

2) When I get past that - to make SEFs work I have to replace the released .htaccess file with an earlier code below:

#
#php_value session.use_trans_sid 0
#

RewriteEngine On
RewriteRule ^(.*)/$ index.php?category=$1 [L]
RewriteRule ^([a-z_]+)/([^/]+)/ index.php?category=$1&title=$2 [L]
RewriteRule ^([a-z_]+)/([^/]+)/([^/]+)/ index.php?category=$1&title=$2&commentspage=$3 [L]

3) Now I can login OK and post an article and all seems to work OK EXCEPT...

4) If I now log-back in to, say attach an image to that article I just posted - I can do it in login state - but then on logout the article has vanished from the page. As a futher strangeness the 'enable future posting' checkbox has now vanished from the edit page!!

Any ideas - coz my earlier version worked like a dream!

Thanks again and sorry for the long post - u guyz rock!

thanks for the nice comments timofee.

Did you try emptying your browsers cache folder, since it seems that it is still using the cache, since future posting did not exists in 1.3, and you said that you have used it before, it may be the problem.

as for the .htaccess, I am pretty sure that I included the same one that Luka distributed with 1.4.  I'll check into it some more and let you know.

Hey dobey,

Thanks for replying. Emptying the cache made no difference I'm afraid.

The .htaccess file that came with your release has this code:

   php_value session.use_trans_sid 0

RewriteEngine On
RewriteRule ^categories/$ index.php?category=categories [L,QSA]
RewriteRule ^contact/$ index.php?category=contact [L,QSA]
RewriteRule ^images/$ index.php?category=images [L,QSA]
RewriteRule ^login/$ index.php?category=login [L,QSA]
RewriteRule ^logout/$ index.php?category=logout [L,QSA]
RewriteRule ^new/$ index.php?category=new [L,QSA]
RewriteRule ^rss/$ index.php?category=rss [L,QSA]
RewriteRule ^unpublished/$ index.php?category=unpublished [L,QSA]

RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} -f
RewriteRule ^(.*) $1 [L]

RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule ^(.*)/$ index.php?category=$1 [L]
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule ^([a-z_]+)/([^/]+)/ index.php?category=$1&title=$2 [L]
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule ^([a-z_]+)/([^/]+)/([^/]+)/ index.php?category=$1&title=$2&commentspage=$3 [L]

#Uncomment this line if snewsis not in the root direectory
#RewriteBase /sNews14-txtdb

--------------------It doesn't allow me in at all (Error 500)

--------------------I had to replace it with one from an earlier sNews 1.4 beta which has this code:

#
#php_value session.use_trans_sid 0
#

RewriteEngine On
RewriteRule ^(.*)/$ index.php?category=$1 [L]
RewriteRule ^([a-z_]+)/([^/]+)/ index.php?category=$1&title=$2 [L]
RewriteRule ^([a-z_]+)/([^/]+)/([^/]+)/ index.php?category=$1&title=$2&commentspage=$3 [L]

--------Then it allows me in...

Just one other thing, I'm not clear about whether or not I must give a name to the db in the snews-txtdb.php file ? Could you clarify this ?

Thanks for your detective work. :)
