I mean, the only way to get better in webdesign is to learn something from others...

The challenge is to make a (pseudo-)lightweight design for 1.6.
All designs will be GPL or CCl

Rules:
- Stylesheets: Maximum size 5kb total - Changed from 3kb
- Images: Maximum 2. Maximum size is 8kb total.
- index.php:  No inline styling.  No additional text. Evey element is allowed, but no tables.
- Content: The stylesheet provides styling for strong, em, p, ul, li, a and h*. Eveything else will be disregarded.
- Backend (everything that is only visible, when logged in), will be disregarded concerning styling. It has to be remain functional though.
- Browser differences: The design doesn't have to be pixel perfect. It is a risk to be taken, if the design looks bad in browser X.
- Presentation: In html on the Internet. A downloadable zipped file should be available, including: index.php, images and stylsheet. All (default) sNews 1.6 compatible.
- ADDED SUGGESTIONS (Hollar if these should be removed)
1. Valid code (both html and css)
2. Is it a blatant rip-off?

- "Ringside comments" - allowed. Although posted as all entries are submitted (equal shot at dissing eachother,ok ?) ;)

Deadline Wednesday, 24:00 CET
Participants: Sandro, Agent, Joost, Sasha and ens

Ok, I'm going in.... I'll delete every thing BUT Joost's rules, with an update regarding finish line date, and The contribution made by Sasha...(And the first post made by Sandor, or the thread will be deleted ;))

Voting starts when all entries have been submitted, not before then... Keep it clean guy's. Now let's start designing, and post your contributions, no later than Wednesday 24.00 CET, or your submission will be omitted... (This thread will close, and you can't enter the game nomore...)

@Ens,

No problem. Just make clear which mods are involved for people who would like to try your design.
You are making me nervous pal. It is six o'clock in the morning , I just arrived from work and I still have a lot of work to do to get my design finished. :(

Interesting. You humans are set on laying down rules and then happily accept when rules are broken, huh? But it's fine by me ... it won't change the end result anyway. :D
Come on Joost  ... ens is finished, I'm almost done with number 2, Sandro is eerily quiet (probably entirely focused and working hard) and sasha is ... trying to get out of Frontpage? :P
it's not looking good for you...

Oh ouch! :) it's only 'cause I'm to damn lazy to upload a fresh default virgin (there's so many ways of describing it) sNews file.... lol. but in this case....

OH and don't be too assured, slow but steady wins the race. Mine really is lightweight. Spent 45 mins on it period.

I am ready for you, I hope you're ready for me.

Iam smoking dynamite, drinking TNT,
I hope some screwball starts a fight,

Ok, actually I have no time to sit on the dock, or anywhere else, have to run off for the day. So I'm a' just post my entries here and leave you guys slackjawed...

Oh, yes -- we can do it our way, baby.
Have fun, boys. I'm out. :P

/*Edit
Montreal weighs in at 5.7kb, uses 2 PNG images (because the design is for standards compliant browsers so IE6 is probably shot anyway) at a total of 4kb and the stylesheet comes to a whopping 4.8kb.
What can I say, I like detailed stylesheets...

Apple Green also weighs 5.7kb, uses 2 images (a GIF and a PNG) with a combined weight of 1.7kb and a stylesheet that is a lean, mean 4.7kb.

Yup: lightweight and elegant... :D

Here is mine.

"Doctor" template named because it reminded me of cleanliness and whiteness of a doctor's office. Haha.

Oops, I am late.
Here is my design live: http://test.kerkelaan.nl/
Here is the zip: http://kerkelaan.nl/out/BlueGenes.zip

My blue genes

The size of My blue genes  template is 7.820 bytes, containing two pictures, index.php and a stylesheet.
To be honest, it is not finished, but it comes close to what I had in mind.
