Help with first sNews site
« on: April 25, 2007, 03:31:39 AM »

Well, I'm trying to build my very first website with sNews and a custom template, and so far I've been very impressed with its simplicity. But I have a few questions:

1. Is there any way that when I click on a category, I get shown a list of articles under it rather than the top x number of articles?
2. I want to enable comments, but not display the date. But I find if I turn off the info line, the commenting is turned off as well. How can I disable the date?
3. Where do I edit the contents on the Contact page? I have "Contact" as a category, and when I click on it, it takes me to the Contact page, but this page isn't listed under either Articles or Pages.

Thanks in advance.

1. You will have to code it. Search in forum there should be info on making similar mods.

3. Contact page is provided by function contact() in snews.php.

Thanks for the response Codetwist.

Hmm... I think I might be able to handle the contact bit.

I did search the section on this site on mods, but I think coding the articles list is sort of beyond me! My PHP knowledge is minimal... but considering I can do a decent bit of damage with Word Press, I should be able to do this too, right?   :D

Bob, thanks for helping!

I think I've got the listing of articles sorted, except for the place I want them to appear! I basically need the list of articles to appear in the main content div INSTEAD of the articles themselves.

So far, what I've done is, put this line: < ?php menu_articles_incat(); ? > just above < ?php center(); ? >, and tried to set the Articles per page limit to 0 (!) but it didn't let me do that.

By the way, the link: http://snews.writeside.net/. It's still very much a test site and all the links may not be functional.

:D  It works, it works! Thank you, Bob! I shall make sure the pompous a*ses at the Halvard Castle Data Network give you a proper acknowledgement for your help!  ;)

@bakercad
Thank you very much for this  mod. It is a very powerful mod. It extends the navigation menu. This way you can make huge sites easy browsable and the maintainer won't have to worry about its structure which grows naturally.
I have tested this module.. ;)  I mean mod, it works great and took only one minute to implement.
Please add this mod to the mod section !!! :)

Regards

Thank you bakercad, once again you came into my aid. My client requested to have a list of article titles related to their categories when the user clicks in the category link and i tried to pull the job using a query to the db but it always returned weird stuff, i indeed posted a "help" for this mod. Since you did it before myself, all credits go to you. Rock on!
