@ Luka

I think I will zip the 1.2 version designs up and take'em of my site, and start over with 1.3...
But I have a cupla questions...I experienced some log in difficulties with version 1.3 when testing it
a week ago. I couldn't login with FF. Does that work now ??

Patric.

Ok, hangover from a conference and not tooooo bright at the moment.

I have downloaded the latest beta from solucija.com...that one isn't updated with the prefix thingy, right ? Nor with any other
stuff that has been suggested and thought of. Correct ?

I think it might be that way...Ah, well, I'll wait some more. My thinking...or atleast my effort to think, hehe, was leading me towards installing the new version and actually keep the old one aswell, as I think Andreas had done. But in order to do that I have to wait for the next update if I'm not in a total mindfreeze right now.

A new clearifying question for me then:

The code in the readme.txt which is to be inserted in the "run" thingy in phpmyadmin will that contain something to help making the prefix of my choice. I mean if only the sNews.php contains that possibility I have to manually set up the database tables, and I don't think I can handle that...Will there be som sort of tutorial on how to fix this ? I got something like that from Patrik with a K concerning something else...which probably was brilliant, hehe...

In short, will the readme "createcode" contain a possibility to set up the prefix ? Or might there be a tut on how to do that without having to delete the already existing tables from version 1.2 ??

With hopes of making myself understood - Patric.

OK guys, here's the thing:

Every time I finish one feature I go to the next one, cause I'm trying to implement all suggestions you've made.
According to that, sNews is now pretty prowerfull  ;D, but I need some more time to fix feeds and possible errors,
but sNews is behaving well now I must say...

So, thank you for your patience..  ;D

Me and my yellow ball that I like to bounce off the wall when working have decided that I need to format my main computer. I'll be off sor a few hours till I install everything...

And one question:

Does anyone know what's a good email client that support threaded type of displaying emails. In general, I would like to see how the conversation progress is going without of having all my emails thrown in the inbox dumpster  ;D

Ok, I'm the one that possibly could be taken for one who's pressuring Luka. That is not my intention. The other old guy describes it kind of...well.
I'm eager to get the new version, I'm yearning, I'm arrowsed...and so on. Please do not feel as if I am pressing you to do things faster than you can... I'm satisfied as it is. I know your doing it as fast as you can and even more accurate than others might have in order to get it online as fast as possible.

So take your time, I'll be here to download when you're ready ;).

yep..I'll send you a Gmail invite Luka, that works well for conversational handling.

Only..am I right in thinking that you want a home client rather than a web client? not sure about that Luka?  :-

A brainstorming sesson or a tea party:

OK, so sNews is small, but what about the database? Do anyone care how big the database is?

If I transfer all the settings to the fields in special table in the database, we'll get the option to change all our settings on the fly. We could set the character limit for articles individually, store our passwords in the database and other cool things.

If we're not satisfied with that, we make a very simple feature. An online css editor. I can see a commercial for that: Change your styling on the fly, change your css file every day  ;D

The next step for this would be to create an installer. After that, we'll need a complete documentation. What if someone says that sNews isn't simple anymore?  ;D

Let me know what you thing about that...

This is a very good idea. I was also thinking you could implement an install.php script so that users wouldn't have to create the tables themselves in phpMyAdmin, the script would do it for them.

excellent idea boyd! and a natural progression for Snews the way it is growing and developing :)

As far as the database size, I think it's a non-issue. You only have to create one more table (a config table) so it wouldn't get THAT much bigger. If you want to see how big databases can be just look at phpBB or something like that. Another good idea would be have the option to have a table prefix in the install. This is good because then users can run multiple copies of sNews within the same database.

yep..I agree. I don't think database size is an issue with most hosting accounts these days giving ample space to cover your normal site size.

It's true that the lower end hosting companies still only offer one MySql database [a pretty backward move if you ask me!], so the ability to set a table prefix would be a great thing, especially if you wanted to use Snews as a multiple blogging platform..

..I could see that day when Snews could also be called Sblog too, unless somebody has already taken that name..;)

Could be a good idea Luka, but I'd be worried about a loss of data in case the server goes down for some reason? How about a built in Database backup tool just in case?

tied into a style switcher? from the front page or something? not a bad idea..though I don't personally like to see sites who's css changes too frequently, not good for the branding image, but fun for others to play with I guess!

Now there I could possibly help you, having had experience with writing for Mambo in the early days, using both a development wiki, and xml editor to format the docs for final conversion to .pdf format. I also was responsible for the images in the docs..let me know if you want to go ahead with this ok, more than happy to help or discuss this, as time permits.

bryn :)

Since I want sNews small and simple, I didn't want to include pictures for authorization on comments.
Well, this could be our spam solution:

But than again, that's not simple is it?  ;D

mmmm..interesting reading Luka, but pretty difficult and code hogging to implement.

maybe one day they'll come up with the definative answer?

I had a couple of ideas about this..what ya think?

The user is required to go and view a flash image, which is created by reading text from an xml file, during this time the submit button is hidden, only if the answer is correct is a call sent to the server to show the button and you can post.

impractical, impossible, or not thought through..heh!  ;)

Hi Luka

Nice bit of coding with css. But no good for spam solution to be also valid to w3c stadards.

also flash image..

If you are blind how can you read it  8)

Always look at the code to be AAA that way it will always work... (just me :)
