British Disability Discrimination Act
« on: February 08, 2006, 05:27:01 PM »

Are you compliant with the Disabilities Discrimination Act?

The Disabilities Discrimination Act makes most British websites unlawful from the 1st October 2004. The Act makes it "unlawful for a service provider to discriminate against a disabled person by refusing to provide any service which it provides to members of the public", specifically mentioning websites.

A formal investigation in April 2004 found 81% failed to provide even the most basic access to disabled users. Companies face the threat of legal action and unlimited compensation payments if they fail to comply with new legislation.

For some reason, Solucija fails this point at Silktide. --> http://www.silktide.com/index.php?node=18444&form_refresh=0&form2=1&f2_url=www.solucija.com&f2_ok=OK&pagetree=&editSessionid=&objectid=

I can't see what causes it to fail. Come on Albert this is your field  ;D

Hi Luka

My site passes 100% with sNews :)

the only thing it fails on are:
Use of page titles

This will be fixed in a few days with my new title code program.

Links to web site
It just went up so this should not count for atleast 3 to 4 months due to search engine adding you.

Then there is the web site that is doing the test, they are selling somthing like me.
like the words
How we can help.

so sNews is 100% WHY DO YOU THINK I USE IT... :)

Albert on a mission

If you would like the link to my web site it is here.

Hi

there are only 3 or 4 type of forms with SNEWS so they should be easy to change to be more Accessible.

Search form: very small so that would be easy.

this can be done with Dreamweaver MX to Create Accessible Forms. Dreamweaver MX will prompt you for the fieldset legend.

Eh ? Hehe, Abe...What do you mean ? Should I check for the letter A in plural ? And see if I can become a member of AAA.

I'm having a bit of a problem with all this. Generally speaking, a site should offer text-only versions of pages in order to be WCAG AA/Section 508 valid. A site should have accesskeys and tabindex attached to links within it, in order to be WCAG AA/Section 508 valid. So that's what I've been doing with sites that required WCAG AA as the minimum level of conformance. Now, when I look at your sites, and ponder how to create text-only versions of sNews, I see that neither Albert (360) or Patric offer text-only versions or have accesskeys set to the links, yet Cynthia doesn't bat an eye... (well, ok, she throws a number of warnings at you but that doesn't seem to hinder validation.) Not trying to bash eiter of you, if anything it's the validator's fault, I'm just trying to understand why I've been running through hoops to meet requirements that ... aren't really necessary?

Any tips on how to use/create text-only versions of "pages" with sNews?

it usually means providing site by disabling css rendering (style attachment tag removal) or minimizing css features (bg colors, font colors, images etc...)
