Still reffering to a local copy, are you ?

What do you mean?

What I did was copy over all my settings (DB, webadress) stuff like that from v.1.3 snews which worked fine....to 1.4, and now all my links don't work.

at luka: OK, good. But what about this:
www.iseeyou-designs.com/projects/snewstest/

It doesn't show any items there (should show something just above search, i think), but I have indeed added the code menu_items() and if you check the source of that page you can see it adds an
    but it has no
  • items in there.

Well, ul is there because you'll add some menu items.

I think we should talk about where to put home, archive and contact.

Hmm well they're not exactly bugs, but I'll post my two cents in this topic then (you may remove it if you want it in a different topic Luka): Home in Categories, Archive and Contact in Menu_Items. I don't think Home should be in both...

Lovely how you discuss decisions like this with your visitors, when it's about sNews. Thumbs up Luka!

Well, 20 heads are always smarter than one...
A lot of users on this forum are somehow related with business on Internet and use sNews with their projects. That's why they love to help with development cause in the end it will help them build better sites.

Take me for example. I build web sites all day and I also need a solid PHP backend to run the CSS template.

I'm really sorry but I've missed quite a large part of this thread and is difficult for me to keep up...

some quick stuff on what I've read...

1. About the SEF url error and generak posting errors...
javascript on button hit... easy and clean...
just so you get warned you are doing something stupid...

2. MSN/Gtalk/ICQ/skype! :P
analyzerx at gmail dot com (no idea who/why/when/what asked this but if anyone feels like it on any IM except yahoo...)

3. Luka sorry for bringing this up again but snews needs a bug tracker... ://

4. I think it's time for a script that would convert the mysql tables from 1.3 to 1.4 and also insert some kind of typical SEF urls on the archived articles...

I already explained that all the parameters are passed and I can
just throw in a warning when the page reloads and realize that
you forgot the sef title.

Edit: I know you talked about SEF proposal only through JS,
but sNews currently doesn't contain JS and if it should, we should start
with integrating a wysiwyg editor.

Yes, I see that you have a JS solution for that, but it's really complicated. How are you planning to convert all characters that are used in let's say Sweedish and Polish?

Croatian has these letters: žšđčć which should be converted to zsdc and it's kinda hard to know that for all languages.

Those SEF titles could be automatically entered on a temporary basis with a warning.

The Js is just to remove the special characters... I'm working on a php thingie to convert all these weird chars to latin ones! ^_^
This should be fun! :P

Ok..here goes a numbnuts thoughts :)... Concerning SEF titles...

First one or two q's...Uno. do these SEF need to contain an actual word? Do the SEF need to actually contain a word from the actual title (the one above)? If yes to these q's, you can stop read here, whohaaaaa ;).

If no to the above q's...and here goes, would it be possible to, by the script, add a number starting with 1 to the SEF title field and doing this in a ascending manner per posted article ?

Well, I don't claim to be a genius, so don't go throwing things at me now...Just had a small brainstorm and that popped outta my non-php-thinking head...

Yeah, real fun hehe. There are thousands of languages out there and God knows how many special characters. I watch on Discovery that there are languages dying cause there's only few people speaking them...That's sad  ;D

Patric "lovemachine" Ahlqvist

Well, Search Engine Friendly links are often called User Friendly links.

Why?

When I browse thorugh Solucija and go to www.solucija.com/home/patric-is-a-love-machine/,
I read about Patric and his love skills.

Later, I call all of my friends and talk about some Patric and decide to show them what a lover boy he is. I turn my Firefox on and by instinct click on the address bar and just scroll down to www.solucija.com/home/patric-is-a-love-machine/ instantly knowing that this is the page I'm looking for. It's much nicer then solucija.com/324234908.html.

* All characters used to make a point are fictional
* No love making was involved during this explanation
