S.O.S 1.5 Package
« on: October 02, 2006, 12:54:56 PM »

UPDATED TO sNews 1.5 RC3
Hello to all sNews people!

Well, I know that are alot of people that don't get a good installation of sNews and get
frustated, or simply, people that don't want to install multiple services in their system for
test the sNews CMS.

It's for these cases, maybe others, that I've been make a package named "S.O.S 1.5 RC2".

What's the contents of the "S.O.S 1.5 RC2" package?
The contents are:
* Apache 1.3 Server
* MySQL Server
* PHP 4 & 5
* MyPhpAdmin
* and, ofcourse, sNews 1.5 RC3
All is pre configured and, _really_, ready to use.

How can I install this package?
- Well, this package _don't_ need to be installed. Simply, uncompress the EXE file,
anywhere that you want and execute the file "start.bat".

How can I use this package?
- Simple like a sNews philosophy... open your favorite browser and point to
 http://localhost/. Simple, not? :D

No install nothing? Perhaps, If It's possible to put into my USB stick or pen-drive?
- Offcourse, you can put all the contents of the ZIP file into your Memory Stick and
run your webserver with your sNews anywhere that you want. Great, right? :D

If you want to try it, feel free to get a copy here (5Mb):
http://snews.bolhost.com/sos15.exe

Additional info:
- This package was zipped and maked as EXE using 7Zip Compressor http://www.7-zip.org/
- This package _only_ run in a Windows 9x, 2000 or XP enviroment.
- The login and password to aministrating sNews are : test
- sNews don't use user or password to connect to the MySQL DB (if you want, you
can make a user for more security via MyPhpAdmin)
- To stop all the webservices, press any key inside the ms-dos black box. A little info apear to help.
- All the contents of this EXE uses 26Mb decompressed.
- You can manipulate, create, remove and backup the current sNews 1.5 DB with MyPhpAdmin pointing to
this url: http://localhost/myphpadmin/

Thanks,
bramsyuur.

Hey Brams... this is a great idea for simple single-site testing with mobility to boot.

Bram, I can't get it to work.

when I call start.bat from the DOS-box it says twice: The system cannot find the given path (or something like that, translated from dutch).
then it says:  Starting the server . . .
and the cursor is blinking.

When I point then to http://localhost/ Firefox tells me that it cannot find the server.

I unzipped the file to my hard drive and to a usb-stick; in neither of the cases it worked.

pity, pity pity :(

Brauck: What OS are you ussing? And please, can you post the entirely error message here? (don't worry if it's in dutch)
Celebro: The file is compressed using 7Zip : http://www.7-zip.org/

I've tested this package in two different computers and I've get no error in any case.
Can someone make another test?
Thanks,
bram.

Hey brams... I think Brauk is away for the weekend and not expected to return until Tuesday ( http://www.solucija.com/forum/viewtopic.php?pid=14710#p14710 ). I find your S.O.S. 1.5 Package interesting, but I am deep in the midst of lots of work with little spare time. I already have two instances of XAMPP installed on my XP machine and I don't require portability (laptop or USB stick).

Is it possible to install your package on my C: drive where XAMPP is already installed (in C:/root) without affecting the operation of XAMPP?

Thanks Key for the advice.
About your question, well, this package use the default port of apache and MySQL default, too. In this case, I don't recomend to you to test this package, your surelly get into a problem with your current config.
Thanks Key anyway,
bram.
